Kreature of the Month - February, 2003

Leigh "Goddess of Thunder,"  Atlanta, GA

1) Tell us your name & age, where you're from, and what you do for a living.

My name is Leigh, I am 38 years old.  I live outside of Atlanta, and I am a dentist. (YES, that was me on VH1 Fanclub!  :-)

2) Tell us when & how you first became a KISS fan.

I first discovered KISS in 1975, at 11 years of age.  My oldest brother brought home the ALIVE album, and the pictures mesmerized me!  My friend Donna and I put that makeup on CONSTANTLY as kids, and our mothers told us that we were going to get "ZITS" from it,,,,haha!  We put on little "concerts" in the basement complete with Christmas lights, ketchup spitting and fireworks.

3) Describe the first KISS concert you attended.

The first KISS concert I attended was in 1979, Dynasty tour.  We had to travel 2 hours to get to it, talked my friend's mom into taking us!  I was in heaven, even though the seats sucked!  I said to myself "Someday I will be in the first row."  Well, that took me 25 years to accomplish, but I've been put into the front row now many times due to my "Goddess of Thunder" outfit!   There is NOTHING like first row at a KISS concert, it can't be beat!

4) How many times have you seen KISS live, and what is the farthest you have traveled to see them play?

I cannot even count how many times I have seen KISS live.  I have about 25 stubs accounted for, but have some unaccounted for.  I saw the Farewell tour 10 times, Reunion tour 4 times, Psycho Circus tour 3 times, and have seen pretty much every tour before that at least once since 79.  The farthest I have traveled would have to be either to Austin, Texas or Detroit.  Glad I went to that Texas Farewell show, because that night my friend and I got put into the front row by Tommy Thayer and Spiro, and I got the whole body of Paul's broken guitar!!

5) What KISS member do you best identify with?

When I dress up, I dress as Gene, and it is my alter ego "the Goddess of Thunder." I can't imagine dressing like Paul, Peter or Ace, even though I love them all.  Something about Gene drew me in - the character of the demon is larger than life!  When I dress up, I do find myself acting a little differently,,,,,maybe more confident, more attitude, more intimidating!  I am able to do things I wouldn't normally do.  But I also try to put a sexy female spin to Gene's character.

6) What does KISS mean to you?

KISS keeps me young at heart.  They remind me of my youth, which was a fun time for me.  They are my "mascots," have been with me since I was eleven years old, kind of like good luck charms! They have seen me through thick and thin, and were always there for me.  I think my life without KISS would have been much more boring!

7) Most KISS fans – at some point in their lives – have had to defend their allegiance to the band.  Tell us about your most memorable experience.

YES, I used to get picked on at school about KISS daily.  But I didn't care what people thought.  I never backed down, and defended them 'til the end!  Everyday I had to wear a KISS item to school, be it a belt buckle, t-shirt, necklace, watch, pin, WHATEVER!  One of my favorite pictures is my 8th grade picture,,,,,my Mom told me NOT to wear any KISS items to school for my picture, so what did I do?  Put a KISS pin in my pocket and put it on when I left the house.  Boy did I get in trouble for THAT one!!

8) List your favorite – and least favorite - song by each member of KISS and why:

* Paul Stanley – favorite: I Stole Your Love

* Paul Stanley – least favorite:  And Then She Kissed Me

* Gene Simmons – favorite:  Let Me Go, Rock and Roll

* Gene Simmons – least favorite: sorry, can't think of one!  I truly love them all!!

* Ace Frehley – favorite: Rocket Ride

* Ace Frehley – least favorite:  again, can't think of one!

* Peter Criss – favorite:  Dirty Livin'

* Peter Criss – least favorite:  the WHOLE solo album!!

9) What is the best KISS song to “knock your platform boots” to?

That would have to be "Take It Off!"

10) What is your most prized KISS possession?

Well, I have quite a few, but if I HAD to pick just ONE, it would be my Gene dragon boot from the Farewell tour. My friend and I went in on the set at the last Sotheby's auction-we each got one boot. WOW is it COOL to see up close!  But my whole condo is filled with my KISS collection.

11) Word association – tell us the first thing that comes to mind for the following:

* Vinnie Vincent:  Vinnie Who??

* Video for “Uh All Night”:  Lots of nurses with short skirts pushing beds!

* Farewell Tour:  Hopefully the tour that never ends!

* Girls of KISS:  Playboy bunnies, not TRUE KISS fans.

* The movie "Runaway":  A Masterpiece!! Gene is a great villain!!

* Chopper:  Slime's cohort in crime

* Music from The Elder:  What was up with the purple headband, Paul??

* KISS dolls:  Have all 4, 2 in boxes

* Song "Hide Your Heart":  AH AH AH AH, HEY HEY HEY, DOO DOO DOO DOO, DOO DOO DOO DOO DOO..........

* Phil Elliott:  First "KISS" friend I made when I moved to Atlanta.  I met Gene and Paul for the first time in '94 thanks to Phil!  :-)

12) Rate the following KISS albums on a scale from 1 to 10 . . . 1 never should have been released, 10 is a KISS classic:

* Hot in the Shade:  3

* MTV Unplugged:  7

* Alive I:  10

* Gene Simmons (solo ‘78):  10

* Lick it Up:  7

* Killers:  7

* Psycho Circus:  7

* Kiss My Ass:  2

* Unmasked:  5

* Hotter than Hell: 10

13) Time for KISS Jeopardy. Answer: Gene’s tongue. What is the question?

What's long, and wet, and can make you his "VERY BEST FRIEND"????

14) How do you feel about being selected as the Kreature of the Month?

I am honored to be the Kreature of the Month!  It is always fun to be picked to be a "special KISS fan" and talk about what KISS means to me!

15) If KISS was to read this, what one thing would you want to tell them?

I would simply tell KISS thank you, for adding a lot of fun to my life!  I have met so many friends through KISS and the KISS conventions, done some traveling to see the shows, which is always interesting!  And THANKS for keeping me young, and for still being KISS 30 years later!!  Gives us all inspiration!

Congratulations, Leigh, on becoming the February Kreature of the Month!  If anyone would like to get in touch with Leigh, you can e-mail her at the_goddessofthunder@yahoo.com.
